The Buildings and grounds series primarily contains materials related to the construction of Ethical Culture School buildings, both in Manhattan and the Bronx. A large portion of the record group is devoted to the planning and construction of Tate Library on the Fieldston campus in the 1960s and 1970s. Types of materials include correspondence, meeting materials, ephemera, government documents, news clippings, press releases, photographs, and architectural drawings.
Records related to fundraising efforts, especially for the construction of the Midtown Ethical Culture School building during the 1920s and the Tate Library during the 1960s, are also included. Architectural drawings and diagrams are generally oversize. For the most part, architectural images appear to have been produced for display or general information, not for use during construction.
