This record group includes materials for the Fieldston School, the secondary school often referred to as the Upper School and later divided into Fieldston Middle and Fieldston Upper. Overall, the series provides information on the administrative and educational work of faculty and staff, as well as the academic and extracurricular life of students in Form I through Form VI. Types of materials include ephemera, correspondence, meeting materials, reports, student work, photographs, and news clippings.
The papers of principals and other senior administrators, including long-time principal Luther Tate can be found in this record group. Evaluations of the schools are also included, most notably the "Eight-Year Study, a 1930s multi-school study on secondary education and college preparation. This record group also contains materials on Fieldston-specific faculty matters and school policies.
Academic programs are represented with annual department reports from the 1930s through 1980s, assorted departmental records, curriculum materials, and some examples of student work. Programs, newsletters, news clippings, and other ephemera cover student athletics, performances (including dance, drama, and music) and student clubs and organizations.

Prior to 1928, secondary education was conducted at the Ethical Culture School in Manhattan, so those earlier records can be found in Record Group 2, Early and defunct schools.
