Scope and Contents Note
David Maness's office files document his roles as Magazine Development Group Editor and Assistant Corporate Editor. Records include reports on possible new magazines and services, quarterly reports on individual magazine activity on radio and television, reports containing background information for meetings and business dinners, correspondence between editorial staff, meeting agendas, lists of contacts and meeting attendees, agreements related to the loan of art and sculptures, agreements with other news organizations, invoices, notes, and news clippings.

Biographical Note
David Maness began his editorial career at Time Inc. in 1964. His first position was as an Articles Editor for Life, and he remained with this magazine in various editor positions until it ceased publication in 1972. He transferred to Time-Life Books and was promoted to Editor of the Magazine Development Group in 1981. Maness remained in this position until 1984 when he became Assistant Corporate Editor. In addition to the regular function of this role, when either Henry Grunwald or Jason McManus were away from the office, Maness would serve as the managing editors for Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Money, People, and Discover.

These David Maness papers were found together in a folder among Marshall Loeb's corporate editorial papers. It isn't clear if Loeb collected them for reference, but there is no mention of his ownership of the files so they have been placed with the rest of Maness's corporate editorial records.
