In the interview, Yee discusses cultural values and gender roles in her family; experiences with bullying in Hooksett, New Hampshire; courtship with her first husband, a white American with French-Canadian heritage, who served in the Vietnam War; and involvement in New York City's Asian community. Biographical note

Bette Yee was born to Chinese parents in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Hooksett, New Hampshire. Yee received a B.A. in sociology and math from the University of New Hampshire. She worked in the finance industry in New York City and volunteered with the Organization of Asian Women.
