In the interview, Schwartzman discusses his childhood in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan; cultural and linguistic heritage; experiences as a Japanese, Yiddish and English speaker; and impressions of racial and ethnic diversity in New York City, Japan, and Canada. Biographical note

Harry Schwartzman was born to a Japanese mother and a white American Jewish father and raised in New York City. He received an undergraduate degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and worked at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum in New York City.
