Scope and Contents Note
The Computer Television Inc. (CTI) files contain J. Winston Fowlkes's files on the general business of CTI, its collaborations with hotels particularly with Hilton Hotels, and its acquisition of Trans-World Communications. Records include correspondence with CTI president Paul Klein, CTI vice president of engineering Ronald Johnston, and CTI director of marketing Tom Werts along with reports related to CTI hardware test runs, analysis of the company, copies of CTI's certificates of incorporation, and CTI board meeting agendas and minutes. Fowlkes sends correspondence on behalf of CTI, but also received correspondence from CTI as a Time Inc. executive.

Historical Note
According to a 1974 memorandum from J. Richard Munro, vice president of the corporate group overseeing film and television, Computer Television Incorporated (CTI) was Time Inc.'s "entry into the new business of marketing movies and other video product for pay in hotels." Paul Klein served as President of CTI from 1971 to 1974. In 1974, Klein resigned as president and became chairman of the CTI board. Austin Furst succeeded him leaving his roles as senior vice president and chief operating officer of CTI. Furst later became the head of Time-Life Films.
