Biographical / Historical
Prior to the formation of the McLoughlin Brothers, Inc. John McLoughlin Sr.'s business partner and engraver, Robert H. Elton, published children's books, comic almanacs, and valentines under Elton & Co. (active 1840-1851). Elton began his career in 1828 as a Canal Street printer. Elton is well-known for his contributions to periodical humor in the form of comics and cartoons. Printings of his woodblocks were reissued in later editions of McLoughlin Brothers, Inc. publications.
