Series 8: Materials Relating to Walter D. Britt, 1927-1950, undated

Scope and Contents note

This series contains biographical information, correspondence, and writings of the first Director of the Emergency Shelter. Britt's writings are mainly religious poetry and include Cinders and Ashes, his book of poems published in 1940. His incoming and outgoing correspondence does not directly relate to the operations of the Emergency Shelter. Some letters address Britt's resignation from a different mission and one outgoing letter to President Roosevelt suggests that the Roosevelt administration create a civilian military force for the aged or disabled. The notes in the series appear to be drafts for speeches or sermons.
