This series contains originals and photocopies of bylaws and proposed bylaws of Local 1-2, the Joint Council of Locals 1-2 and 4, and the Joint Council of the Brotherhood of Consolidated Edison Employees; a small amount of correspondence between Joseph A. Fisher, National President, and Edward M. O'Keefe, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 1-2, concerning changes to the Local's bylaws; correspondence and notices reflecting the use of bylaw changes by dissident groups within Local 1-2 to effect alterations in structure and leadership; and copies of the constitution of the Utility Workers Union of America.

This series and is divided into two parts: minutes of Executive Board meetings and minutes of General Membership meetings, each of which reflects the varied political concerns (both internal and external), industrial issues, and bargaining points confronting the Local over the past three decades.

Most of the officers' correspondence has not been preserved. This series includes routine memoranda and publicity communications between the National Union, regional offices, and the Local; a very small amount of correspondence between Marshall M. Hicks, National Secretary-Treasurer, and different officers of the Local regarding financial transactions and creation of working papers; correspondence between members of the National, including Joseph A. Fisher, President, and Harold J. Straub, Vice President, and Oliver J. Harper, an attorney contracted to represent the National.

This series documents the contentious election history of the Local. Elections are well represented through leaflets, memos, clippings, ballot tallies, and official reports of arbitrators and court-appointed monitors. This series contains correspondence and memoranda between the locals, the companies, and the National Labor Relations Board regarding the planning of elections; notices of elections and election results; decisions of the National Labor Relations Board; notices with platforms and election slates for political parties within Local 1-2, including the Justice Party, the Unity Party, Members 1st Party, and Administration; lists of election observers; notices and posters for elections; polling lists; and election results. Correspondents include the Brotherhood of Consolidated Edison Employees; the Joint Council of Locals 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7; Consolidated Edison System Companies; Harold J. Straub; Elinore M. Herrick; Patrick McGrath; Augustus Low; Andrew McMahon; John C. Arnell; Edward L. Marsine; and Bernard E. Gallagher. Early elections are well represented, especially the 1940 election in which the Brotherhood of Consolidated Edison Employees became Local 1-2.

This series contains correspondence, memoranda, minutes, booklets, pamphlets, notices, posters, VHS cassettes, and photographs documenting aspects of the Local's role in bargaining and negotiating on behalf of its members.

This series contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, newsletters, photographs, programs, and VHS cassettes regarding a number of topics, including different political parties within the Local, including Administration, New Directions Caucus, Members 1st Party, and the Justice Party; the trusteeship instituted by the National in 1998 due to alleged mismanagement of funds by the president of the Local, Joseph Flaherty; histories of the Local, ConEd, and other organizations; the 50th anniversary of the local; social events held by the Local; efforts by the Progressive Labor Party to influence Local members; Local financial records; legislative files; the Local's dealings with individual employers other than ConEd (small numbers of Local members were employed by private companies); and the 1940s detail organizing efforts within ConEd which resulted in the replacement of older company unions by the Brotherhood of Consolidated Edison Employees.

The website of Local 1-2 of the Utility Workers Union of America includes information on their political action committee, their publication, The Record dating back to 2006, images and other audiovisual materials, news listings, and event listings. Capture of the website began in 2009 and focused on the Employee Free Choice Act; World Trade Center injuries litigation; union elections and results; contract negotiations with Trans Canada, Con Edison, Entergy, NRG Energy, Reliant Energy, and the New York Power Authority; business agent contact information; and other documents related to benefits, grievances, and by-laws. In 2012, the website redesigned to include a photo gallery; member submitted news; videos; Hurricane Sandy response; Trans-Pacific Partnership; and political action campaigns. In 2015, the website redesigned again and focused on by-law revisions; injured workers protectings; support of nuclear facility closures; labor day parade; the young workers program; Rosary Hill fundraising; hurricane relief; heat waves; death announcements; and other membership meeting announcements. In 2020, the website began to focus on the union's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and contract negotiations with Con Edison. Up until the most recent web design in 2021, most news was posted as a pdf attachement in the website. In 2021, the highlighted the SUEZ contract negotiations; renewable energy union wariness; and COVID-19 vaccine requirements. The crawl also includes captures of the union's YouTube channel.

This series contains correspondence and notices regarding election of delegates to UWUA National Conventions; agenda and minutes of conference sessions at the UWUA Nuclear Conference; and audio recordings of Educational and Regional Conferences held in 1964.

UWUA Constitutional Conventions are documented through proceedings, officers reports, and photographs. The proceedings include transcripts of remarks and reports given at sessions. The officers reports outline important issues facing officers between conventions, including contract negotiations, financial operations of the National Union, and educational, political, and health initiatives. The photographs document panels, attendees, speakers, and social events at the conventions.
