Scope and Contents Note
Records includes correspondence and memorada to and from Daniel Okrent while he was the Assistant Manging Editor and Managing Editor for Life. Included are letters from readers and other publications' editors and writers; article proposals; and some Time Inc. interdepartmental correspondence. His files also contain a small number of files from prior Managing Editor James Gaines. Some of his records as Life Managing Editor are intermingled with his files as an editor in the New Media department record group.

Biographical Note
Daniel Okrent joined Life in 1989 as a consultant and contributing editor before being appointed as the Assistant Managing Editor. In December 1992, he was appointed the Managing Editor succeeding Jim Gaines, and held this position until 1996. At that time, he was appointed as an editor for New Media, Time Inc.'s internet media umbrella.
