Mary Pierrepont Stuyvesant (18??-1879) was the first Mrs. Rutherfurd Stuyvesant. Most of the material in the series is correspondence, which detail her close relationship with her sisters-in-law, Margaret and Louisa M. Rutherfurd.

Many of these letters are undated, and many are addressed to "Mamie". Most of the content of the letters concerns family and social affairs. Frequent correspondents are Louisa Morris Rutherfurd (1859-1892) ("Loulou"), Margaret Rutherfurd White ("Daisy"), Margaret Chanler Rutherfurd, Ellen Pierrepont, and Henry Pierrepont.
