Historical/Biographical Note
Joel Shufro was an instructor at the Center for Labor Studies (Labor College) for the Empire State College from 1972 through 1977. Shufro was active as a representative and as an officer in the Empire State College Chapter of the union, United University Professions, Inc. He also served on a subcommittee of the Academic Personnel Committee of the College.
Scope and Contents
The collection reflects the development of administrative procedures, curriculum, and personnel policies at Empire State College from its creation by the State University in 1971. The files include photocopies of memoranda, minutes, recommendations and reports from the various committees and administrative bodies of Empire State College. In addition there are course descriptions and samples of student learning contracts from the Labor College, as well as correspondennce, newsletters, newsclippings and petitions.

The collection includes personnel records and student and faculty evaluations which are restricted (boxes 3 and 4). The remainder of the materials are open without restrictions.
