The in-production (as of 2009) documentary, Dreamers and Fighters: The NYC Teacher Purges, was conveived by the late Sophie-Louise Ullman as an effort to honor the members of the New York City Teachers' Union (1916-1964), many of whom were fired in the early 1950s for their alleged Communism or refusal to cooperate with New York State and New York City investigations.
