Historical/Biographical Note
Edith and her husband Isadore Chavat were apparently rank and file activists in the Young Communist League and the Communist Party in Brooklyn, New York, and at Brooklyn College.
Scope and Content Note
This unprocessed collection contains printed ephemera (including ephemeral serials), and internal documents of Communist Party USA and Communist Party led organizations, including the Young Communist League (YCL), the American Student Union and American Youth for Democracy. The collection documents Communist activity at Brooklyn College, particularly anti-war activity of the period of the Hitler-Stalin Pact (1939-1941), and campus free speech issues. There is also some YCL material from Brooklyn's New Utrecht neighborhood and high school.
