Archives of Irish America Pamphlet Collection
Archives of Irish America
Materials primarily in English, with some publications in Irish.
The Archives of Irish America Pamphlet Collection is an intentionally assembled collection of various pamphlets, leaflets, and booklets published by and for the Irish American community. The pamphlets date from as early as 1843 and provide social and political commentary on activities in Ireland and America. Topics include socialism, labor relations, Irish immigration, Irish republicanism, England's relationship with Ireland, and conflict in Northern Ireland, with specific emphasis on deportation cases, the 1981 hunger strikes, and British military practices. Major writers represented include Éamon de Valera, James Connolly, Sean O'Casey, Gerald O'Reilly, Bobby Sands, and Francis Sheehy-Skeffington. Of note is a copy of An Smaointeori, the magazine for the Gaelic League of the State of New York, signed by Irish republican and Sinn Féin politician Liam Mellows.
