Abstract

This collection consists mainly of materials collected by Kathleen Mulvey documenting her family history. The collection includes family correspondence, panoramas of Irish American social organization functions, a banner celebrating John F. Kennedy's trip to Ireland in 1963, and a scrapbook from Elizabeth Mulvey's first trip to Europe in the late 1920s, which included Ireland, Italy, France, and Switzerland. Elizabeth Mulvey was a teacher and later public school principal in the Bronx. Kathleen Mulvey was the first woman president of the Irish Institute and an active member of the County Carlow Society.

Biographical Note

Elizabeth Mulvey was born in the Bronx to a family of Irish immigrants: her father was a carpenter born in the Bronx and her mother was born in Wicklow. Mulvey worked as a teacher and later the principal of a public school in the Bronx.

Kathleen Mulvey was the first woman president of the Irish Institute and an active member of the County Carlow Society.
