Abstract
This is an artifical collection created by the Archives of Irish America during its early years of collecting. The collection consists of a variety of materials, including documents concerning 19th century court cases involving the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Historical/Biographical Note
The Archives of Irish America, a special collection documenting the the Irish migration experience and American Irish ethnicity in the 20th century, accumulated these materials via active collection by staff, contributions from donors and from material removed from collections in the Archives.

Any rights (including copyright and related rights to publicity and privacy) held by David Montgomery were transferred to New York University in 2017 by Edward B. Montgomery and Claude D. Montgomery. Immediate Source of Acquisition
This is an artificial collection created by the Archives of Irish America during its early years of collecting. The 19th century immigrant letters were separated from the David Montgomery Papers (TAM 446) and put into AIA in 2009.
Custodial History
The Archives of Irish America Manuscript Collection is an artificial collection created via active collection by staff, contributions from donors and from material removed from collections in the Archives. The provenance for most of the materials in this collection is unknown. The accession number associated with this collection is 1997.024. Folder 4 containing photocopies of Irish emigrant letters from the 19th century had been separated from the David Montgomery Papers (TAM 446) in 2009 and incorporated into this artificial collection.
