Series I. Bowling League Records, 1961-1971, undated
Extent
Scope and Contents Note
The Bowling League Records document Time Inc.'s staff bowling league from 1961 to 1971. Based on the records, members in charge at various times were Bud Bliven, Carol-Ann Carpentieri, Joyce Christiansen, Loretta Geissler, Rod McDonald, Mary Piper, Val Pour, and Marian Powers. While teams list both men and women members, there are some records for the Woman's Bowling League from the same time period. Records include lists of participants; certifications and sanctions from the national bowling organizations; invitations and planning materials for league luncheons, awards banquets, and the 25th anniversary; newsletters and flyers; record books containing scores, statistics, and schedules; scorecards; registration sheets; photographic material; a scrapbook; a photograph album; and buttons. The "General" files may contain any of these materials. The newsletter was at one point called b.i.f., which was the motto "Bowling is Fun," and looks styled after the Time Inc. newsletter F.Y.I. The folder "Old Time Inc. Bowlers" includes lists of participants going back to the 1950s.

Biographical / Historical
The Time-Life Alumni Society (TLAS) was founded in October 1977 by several retiring editors as a way to keep former Time Inc. employees connected to Time Inc. and each other after leaving the company. Receiving a small stipend by Time Inc. to print invitations and a newsletter, as well as office space, TLAS used member dues to fund several luncheons with guest speakers per year prior to 2018. Notable members include Dick Stolley, Norm Pearlstine, John Huey, Ralph Graves, and Maureen Dowd.
Subseries III.A. President's Files, 1980-2005, inclusive
Extent
Scope and Contents
Dick Stolley, whose materials from time as TLAS president are included, was an editor at various Time Inc. publications for over 40 years. His most notable moment was when he, as Life magazine editor, negotiated to purchase rights to the Zapruder film of the Kennedy assassination. Materials are dated from 2000 to 2005 and contain materials such as news clippings or personal letters from TLAS members, obituaries regarding past TLAS members, and internal correspondence or memos regarding TLAS activities.

One set of photographs, from the now-defunct 1940s employee group Time Out, is from Daniel and Mary Fraser Longwell's personal collection, sent to Marian McDermott in 1978; Daniel helped found Life magazine and was an editor for ten years, and Mary was a chief of research at Time (Prendergast and Colvin 449). Please note this Time Out group is not associated with the later LGBT staff organization.
