Scope and Contents

[PR-391-1] | Women and children with a female teacher studying around a table in a home. A portable blackboard affixed to the wall displays sample English sentences and the date Thursday, January 18, 1923.

[PR-391-2] | Women and children with a female teacher studying around a table in a library or classroom setting. A portable blackboard affixed to the wall displays examples of the present, past, and perfect tenses. A smaller table holds a miniature May Pole around which are grouped a set of Dolls of Many Lands in native costume.

[PR-391-3] | The same women and children and teacher in the same setting as the previous photograph, now examining lacework.

[PR-391-4] | Women and children in costume, one possibly dressed as Christopher Columbus. Verso notation: "Play: New Worlds by Emily Gibson / Italian Women from Hudson Park Library Class under Miss Edith Garretson, Greenwich District, Manhattan." Verso also bears stamp: "Education Committee for Non-English Speaking Women, 222 East 79th St., New York."

[This address was and remains the location of the Yorkville Branch of the New York Public Library.]
