Subseries F. Disaster Relief-Related Programs, 1991-2009, inclusive
Extent
Scope and Contents
This subseries consists of development files documenting NYFA initiatives to fund artists and arts organizations affected by natural disasters and national tragedies. Early documentation of NYFA's efforts to support artists and organizations experiencing financial burden include the Special Arts Fund for Emergencies (SAFE) in 1991. This series also includes materials documenting the New York Arts Recovery Fund (NYARF), a coalition comprised of organizations such as the New York City Arts Coalition, the Asian American Arts Alliance, and the Association of Hispanic Arts, that created a grant program for artists and arts-organizations looking to rebuild their respective artistic and work spaces following direct damage to the events of September 11th, 2001. Materials also document Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts and the Wage Subsidy Program, a partnership with the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE) to create jobs for laid-off workers following 9/11.
