Scope and Content

This series contains clippings from newspapers and magazines, with some full issues, on topics of interest to Smith. They are divided into two broad topics, Health and Source Material. Health includes nutrition, exercise, hair loss, HIV/AIDS, and mental wellness. Source Material includes films and filmmaking, photography, the Golden Age of Hollywood, and beaches and deserts (in particular Hawaii, North Africa, and the Middle East). The clippings contain articles as well as images used in collages or as inspiration for settings in his films and performances. Materials date from the late 1960s to the 1980s, with the bulk from the early to mid 1980s.
