Abstract
The Richard Lebherz Papers are a collection of correspondence from the writer, Coleman Dowell, to his friend and fellow writer, Richard Lebherz.
Biographical Note
Richard Lebherz is a writer and critic who resides in Maryland and began corresponding with the writer, Coleman Dowell in 1968. Lebherz favorably reviewed Dowell's work, and the two corresponded for the next eight years. Lebherz is the author of 'The Man in the White Raincoat'(1963), and 'Frederick: a Walking Tour'(1993).

Scope and Contents
The Richard Lebherz Papers are a collection of correspondence from Coleman Dowell to Richard Lebherz during 1968 to 1976. In the letters, Dowell discusses his personal life, as well as, his work, and the business atmosphere in the publishing industry of the time. There are also two photographs, one of Coleman Dowell taken by Carl Van Vechten and another of Richard Lebherz.
The Fales Library is the primary special collections division of the NYU libraries, housing over 170,000 volumes of English and American literature from 1700 to the present. Strengths of the collection include the development of the English and American novel, with an emphasis on the Gothic and the Victorian novel.
