Abstract
The New York Review Archive is a small collection of correspondence to the New York Review's editor, Peter McCurtin. McCurtin edited the New York Review with William Atkins in 1958.
Historical/Biographical Note:
The New York Review existed in the years 1957 and 1958 at 279 Houston Street in Manhattan and was edited by Peter McCurtin and William Atkins. In the spring of 1957, McCurtin solicited material from top shelf writers of the time including: Aldous Huxley, Muriel Spark, C.S. Lewis, Norman Mailer, Margaret Mead, James A. Michener, J.D. Salinger, and Robert Penn Warren; many of whom replied to the solicitation though many declined contributing. The issue that was published did contain contributions from an impressive array of writers and poets.

Scope and Content Note
The New York Review Archive is a collection of correspondence to the editor Peter McCurtain from 1957 to 1958. The correspondence is predominantly made-up of notes from authors who are declining a contribution to the magazine. However, the collection highlights a wide array of correspondents, including: Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Aldous Huxley, Noel Coward, John F. Kennedy, Alec Guinness, C.S. Lewis, Harry Brown, Norman Mailer, Margaret Mead, James A. Michener, J.D. Salinger, E.E. Cummings, Robert Penn Warren, among many others.
