The series comprises a wide variety of material including administrative files, legal notes on unidentified cases, publications, payrolls, and other items. The records span the years 1843 to 1915. Of particular note are files related to civil service employment, the Wallabout Market, city water supply, the sanitation of the Gowanus Canal and Newtown Creek, and an audit of the accounts of the City of Brooklyn.
