Abstract

This collection contains personal papers and letters, photographs, wedding certificates, and atlases pertaining to the life of John Archer Mosely, dating from 1911 to 1919. This collection also contains a Legislative Resolution issued by the NY State Senate on June 21, 2005.

Biographical Note

John Archer Mosley was a Brooklyn resident who began work as a laborer at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 1913. He later transferred to the Brooklyn Naval Hospital in 1921, and was promoted to the title of Fireman in 1945. After the closing of the Brooklyn Naval Hospital in 1948, Mosley transferred to the U.S. Naval Hospital in St. Albans, N.Y., from which he retired in 1956. Mosley and his wife, Mollie, had four sons and two daughters. All four sons served in the U.S. Military. The Mosley family belonged to Bethel Baptist Church in Brooklyn, where John and Mollie were eventually elected Deacon and Deaconess.
