Abstract
Correspondence of Elsie Viebrock of Flatbush, including letters from her nephew Erwin and son Theodore from their postings in World War II. Theodore Viebrock was killed in a military plane crash in France on November 13, 1944.
Biographical note
Elsie Viebrock and her husband John were both born in Germany. They lived in the Bronx and in Queens before moving to 1124 Flatbush Avenue in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. Their son Theodore C. "Ted" Viebrock was born on November 26, 1919 and their daughter Eleanor was born about ten years later.
Ted gradauted from Bushwick Evening High School in 1938 and from NYU in 1942, where he was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity's Delta chapter. He enlisted in the army on June 29, 1942. He was a second lieutenant. On November 13, 1944 he was on board a B-26 Marauder Bomber, nicknamed "Patsy," which crashed near Plottes, France. The entire crew was killed. Ted's body was returned to the US in 1948 and he was buried at Long Island National Cemetery.

Scope and Contents
Correspondence of Elsie Viebrock of 1124 Flatbush Avenue, including letters from her nephew Erwin and son Theodore ("Ted") from their postings in World War II. There is also a telegram from Ted, and two letters from Ted's sister Eleanor, as well as two birthday cards addressed to Elsie. Additional items include one bulletin of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, located at Ditmas Avenue between East 21st and 22nd Streets in Brooklyn, and one monthly news publication of the Confectioners and Ice Cream Manufacturer's Association.
