Scope and Contents

Series 3: Collected materials, 1973-1998, consists of materials collected and purchased by Crown Heights History Project curator Jill Vexler and the Brooklyn Historical Society. These materials include Chabad Lubavitch advertisements, flyers, brochures, and children's materials; Jewish and Caribbean magazines; newspapers; publications and newspaper clippings related to the Crown Heights riots in 1991; flyers and advertisements for concerts and community events; and West Indian American Carnival Parade advertisements.

Arrangement

Series 3: Collected materials, 1973-1998, is arranged into two sub-series:

Sub-series 3.1: Jill Vexler, 1990-1993

Sub-series 3.2: Brooklyn Historical Society, 1973-1998.

This arrangement was imposed by Crown Heights History Project staff during exhibition planning and was maintained by the archivist.

Biographical / Historical

Jill Vexler, PhD., is a cultural anthropologist and curator who served as Curator and one of the Project Directors of the Crown Heights History Project. She works on projects on cultural identity, social history, and the Holocaust. Vexler currently lives in New York City.
