Abstract
The Charles Hallock papers include a typed biography, along with handwritten notes on club memberships, essays, and published works by Hallock, who was an author, journalist, geographer, naturalist, and explorer as well as a descendent of Peter Holyoke, one of the original settlers of Southold, Long Island.
Biographical note
Charles Hallock was born in New York City on March 13, 1834. He was an author, journalist, geographer, naturalist, and explorer.
Hallock was the son of Gerard Hallock, editor of the New York Journal of Commerce, grandson of Rev. Moses Hallock and grandnephew of his brother, Hon. Jeremiah Hallock, both soldiers in the Revolutionary War. He was also a descendent of Peter Holyoke (or Halleock), one of the original settlers of Southold, Long Island in 1640.
