Abstract
English transcriptions of Dutch legal documents concerning the towns of Flatlands, Flatbush, and Gravesend.
Arrangement
This small collection is housed in a single folder with no particular arrangement.
Scope and Contents
English transcriptions of Dutch legal documents concerning the towns of Flatlands, Flatbush, and Gravesend. Some appear to have been copied from official records of the Dutch government of New Amsterdam (later New York City) and to have been written by Peter Stuyvesant, the last governor to lead New Amsterdam before the colony was seized by the British in 1664. The original documents date from 1656 to 1719, while the transcriptions were created circa 1850.
