Abstract
One 5x7 modern reproduction of a circa 1915-1925 sepia-toned photographic print of a house at 315 Ditmas Avenue.
Historical note
The Brooklyn neighborhood of Kensington was once part of the Dutch town of Flatbush. The first European colonizers in the area settled in 1737. It remained rural until the Coney Island Plank Road opened in 1850. After Ocean Parkway, which bisects the current neighborhood, was completed in 1876, development of the area accelerated rapidly. Much of its current housing stock, potentially including the home pictured in this photograph, was built in the 1920s. From the 1980s onwards the neighborhood has attracted a diverse array of immigrants comprising various nationalities, ethnicities, and religious affiliations.
