Abstract

The Center for Dialogues was established after September 11, 2001 to foster greater dialogue between "the Islamic World, the United States, and the West until its closure in 2015. The collection contains materials documenting the history and programming of the Center for Dialogues.

Historical Note

The Center for Dialogues was established after September 11, 2001 to foster greater dialogue between "the Islamic World, the United States, and the West." It was launched as a a forum and evolved into an institute that held conferences, published policy papers, and other programming. The Center was affiliated with the New School for Social Research from 2002-2005, and with NYU from 2005-2015. The Center closed at the end of January 2015. The Center reported administratively to the Office of the Provost.

Content Description

Administrative records, correspondence, recordings (audio cassette/DVD/VHS), electronic records (direct transfer/3.5" floppy disks), realia, photographs, websites, and other materials documenting the history and programming of the Center for Dialogues.

Scope and Contents

The Center for Dialogues was established after September 11, 2001 to foster greater dialogue between "the Islamic World, the United States, and the West." The website contains event descriptions, policy reports, photos from events, press clippings, video listings, the activities of founder and director Mustapha Tlili, and other resources. The organization focused on specific topics such as the Arab Spring, Islam and Elections, Iran-United States relations, Palestine and Israel, ISIL, Sunni and Shia, Tunisia, relations between the Muslim World and Christian Europe and the United States, and Turkey and Erdoğan. Also includes the tumblr page with articles written by Tlili and Aubrey Clark-Brown and a listing of their conferences from 2002-2014.

Appraisal

Scope was expanded to include Facebook and LinkedIn. The majority of the video in the website was not captured.

Due to technical or privacy issues, archived websites may not be exact copies of the original website at the time of the web crawl. Certain file types will not be captured dependent on how they are embedded in the site.
