Abstract
Martha Forland Bernstein Dale was a student at the New York University School of Education during the late 1930s and early 1940s. She met her husband, Robert Francis Dale, while a student, and the couple married in 1942. Bernstein Dale was an active member of the Education Club, student council, and Sigma Pi Chi Sorority, Eta Chapter. She also served as editor-in-chief of the Education Violet yearbook and the secretary of the French Students' Correspondence Exchange. In the early 1960s, Bernstein Dale returned to NYU to earn a second Bachelor's degree in order to work as a substitute teacher. The Madeleine Dale Collection on Robert Francis Dale and Martha Forland Bernstein Dale consists of a scrapbook created by Bernstein Dale documenting her experiences as an New York University School of Education student in the 1930s and 1940s, as well as her relationship with Robert Francis Dale. The collection also includes commencement programs, NYU publications, a cosmetic compact, published and unpublished writings by Robert F. Dale, and ephemera, such as a dance card to the NYU prom.
