Ernest Gustave Lemcke (1877-1964) was an historian, author, and book publisher. The Ernest Gustave Lemcke Manuscript consists of Lemcke's handwritten manuscript on the early history of England, written between approximately 1904 and 1964.
Biographical Note
Ernest Gustave Lemcke, (1877-1964) was an historian, author, and book publisher. He graduated from Columbia University in 1898. He co-owned Lemcke & Buechner, a book publisher, seller, and importer in New York City, circa early 1900s to 1964.

This collection consists of a 1904 ledger which had been repurposed as a notebook containing Lemcke's handwritten manuscript on an early history of England, written circa 1904-1964.

Donated in February 1992. The accession number associated with this accession is 92.013.
Custodial History
The accession record notes: "Handwritten history of early England written in a small ledger. Unable to find Lemcke in either faculty or student roles for the period, however, the inside cover contains inscription: 'Gift to NYU Library, if wanted, if not, throw'".
It is unclear whether Lemcke donated the ledger to NYU before the 1992 accession date (he died in 1964). The donor remains unknown.
