Scope and Contents
The Julia Jorge Papers dated 1957-2007, the bulk of the materials dated from 1970-1989, document Jorge's work on the Executive Committee of the SSEU Local 37, and as delegate of DC 37. The collection consists of meeting minutes and agendas, bulletins and newsletters, correspondence, AFSCME judicial panel documents, legal documents, articles and clippings, reports, fliers, pamphlets, and a union campaign election button. AFSCME Judicial Panel and legal documents comprise a significant portion of the collection and relate to various internal union disputes, including a major dispute concerning allegations of the misuse of union funds by the President and Secretary-Treasurer of SSEU Local 371. The other materials reflect various union committee activities, particularly the Executive Committee, and relate to union contracts, resolutions, finances, elections, and events. There is a substantial grouping of The Unionist, the official publication of SSEU Local 371. A small number of materials relate to union organizing and worker issues more generally.
