Abstract
International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 9 is an organization of painters, decorators, wall coverers, drywall finishers, sign painters, metal polishers, bridge and structural steel painters, civil service painters, lead abatement workers, glaziers and architectural metal glassworkers, paint makers, and allied tradesmen. The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 9 Records consist of bound minute books, agreements with other trade unions, and legal documents relating to Frank Arnold, James Bishop, Frank Schonfeld, and others. The collection also includes correspondence, election materials, photographs, trusteeship records, and Executive Trial Board records of Frank Schonfeld's trial in 1972. Material in the collection dates from 1932 to 2000, with the bulk of the material dating from 1972 to 1988.
Historical Note
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1887 as the Brotherhood of Painters and Decorators of America. The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 9 (IUPAT DC 9) of New York was granted a charter by the national union in December 1900. IUPAT DC 9 is an organization of painters, decorators, wall coverers, drywall finishers, sign painters, metal polishers, bridge and structural steel painters, civil service painters, lead abatement workers, glaziers and architectural metal glassworkers, paint makers, and allied tradesmen. The majority of the members work in the construction industry.

Folders are arranged chronologically in Series I and alphabetically in Series II and III.
