Series III: Officers and Staff Members, 1939-2008, inclusive

Lasar Epstein worked in China for twenty years as a representative of the Jewish Labor Bund. During World War II, he coordinated the distribution of aid to European Jews who took refuge in Shanghai. After the war, he moved his family to the United States, where he would join the JLC staff.

Samuel Estrin was born in Orsa, Russia in 1893. While studying law in Saratov, he served as president of the university's League of Socialist Students. Estrin continued his education in Moscow and would later live in Berlin and in Paris. He arrived in the U.S. in 1939 and began working for the JLC the following year.

Vladka Meed (1921-2012), born Feigele Peltel Miedzyrzecki, served as Vice President and Executive Committee member of the JLC. As a young woman, Meed played an integral part in the Warsaw ghetto uprising, acting as a courier for the Jewish underground. In 1985, she founded the Holocaust and Jewish Resistance Teachers' Program, which annually selects secondary school teachers who teach about the Holocaust in their classrooms to attend a summer seminar in Israel and Poland.
