Scope and Content Note

The Asian American Arts Centre, founded in 1974 as Asian American Dance Theatre, is a community arts organizations in New York City Chinatown. The current name, Asian American Arts Centre, was adopted in 1987 to encompass both the dance company (Asian American Dance Theatre) and the visual arts program, the Asian Arts Institute, initiated in 1984. In 2007, the Asian American Art Centre created the AAAC Artist Archive. The websites contains a blog with details on past and current exhibitions, the digital archive of art, and information related to community organizing in Chinatown.

artasiamerica is a digital archive of Asian and Asian American contemporary visual artists, first established in 2006. The basis of the digital archive is from the vertical files of over 1500 artists at the phyiscal archive in Chinatown in New York City. The website operates as a research tool containing biographies, digitized documents, images of artists' works, a finding aid of the archive, and other information about the archive.
