Jane Churchman was a squatter and housing rights activist in New York City.

Scope and Contents

The squatters' rights movement which was centered in New York City's East Village and Lower East Side reached its peak in the late 1980s and culminated in the Tompkins Square Park Police Riot of August 1988. However, the movement continued well into the 1990s. The collection consists of clippings and subject files related to housing and New York City politics that were accumulated by squatter Jane Churchman.
