Abstract
Oscar Shaftel (1912-2000) was a faculty member at Queens College who was fired in 1953 after he refused to answer the New York City Board of Higher Education's questions about Communist affiliations in academia. This collection contains clippings, correspondence, printed ephemera, legal documents and testimonies.

Scope and Contents
This collection contains clippings, correspondence, printed ephemera, legal documents and testimonies. Also included are broadsides, pamphlets and flyers, and the testimony of Shaftel and Vera Shlakman before the United States Senate Internal Security Subcommittee. This collection also includes Shaftel's FBI file, which is closed to researchers until 2017.
