Series VIII: Publications, 1919-2002, inclusive

The newspaper of the CPUSA began as the Daily Worker in 1924. It went through several incarnations over the course of the 20th century, including the Worker, the Daily World, the People's Daily World, and the People's Weekly World; in 2009 the newspaper became the People's World, published in an online format. This subseries contains the newspaper's administrative records, the bulk of which derive from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Article drafts, correspondence, and staff files can be found here, including subject files complied by individual staff members, mostly notably Joseph North, and also Grace and Ted Bassett, Marylin Bechtel, William Dennison, Ben Riskin, William Weinstone, Carl Winter, and Mike Zagarell.

This subseries holds a selection of clipping files from the Party's newspaper. The majority of clippings originate from 1968-1986 when the paper was known as the Daily World; a small amount of clippings are from its predecessors, the Daily Worker (1924-1958) and the Worker (1958-1968), and from its successors, the People's Daily World (1986-1990) and the People's Weekly World (1990-2009). Clippings are organized into three sub-subseries: state Communist Party organizations; labor unions and labor organizations; and individuals, organizations, and topics.
