Scope and Contents
This series includes audio and video recordings and transcripts of over 30 interviews with teachers who were investigated by the Rapp-Coudert Committee between 1940 and 1942, as well as a few interviews with actors and performers who were blacklisted because of anti-Communist investigations in the 1940s and 1950s. Frederic Ewen's grandson, Alex Ewen, conducted the majority of these interviews in 1990 on behalf of the Frederic Ewen Center for Academic Freedom Oral History Project. Other interviews were conducted by Steven Leberstein, Barbara Caress and Ellen W. Schrecker.
