Abstract

The Jacob Kramer Papers consist of clippings, correspondence, newsletters, pamphlets and original writings related to Jacob Kramer's military service in the Abraham Lincoln Brigades and the US Merchant Marines and his political activism as a member of the communist party, a labor organizer, and a member of the Gray Panther Party.

Biographical Note

Jacob Kramer (1912-1992) served in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade during the Spanish Civil War and in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a political activist and labor organizer throughout his life. In 1972 he joined the Gray Panthers and became coordinator of the State University of New York at Buffalo student chapter. Kramer also received a Bachelor of Arts and two master's degrees from SUNY Buffalo.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of correspondence, clippings, pamphlets, and writings by Jacob Kramer, a political activist and veteran of the Abraham Lincoln Brigades and WWII from Western New York. The materials cover Kramer's military service, his political organizing, and his personal history, including his involvement with the Gray Panther Party chapter in Buffalo, NY from 1972 until 1992.
