Scope and Contents

The William Colfax Miller Papers date from circa 1936 to 1945 and consist of a disbound scrapbook that contained photographs, leaflets, flyers, postcards, uniform patches, a poster (folded), and post-Spanish Civil War and pre-World War II-era copies of the New Masses. As a whole, the contents of the scrapbook document the experience of an Abraham Lincoln Brigade volunteer in Spain and after returning to the United States with official forms and correspondence, flyers for benefits and public events, and postcards that reproduce well-known Spanish Civil War posters. The collection also contains some post-Spanish Civil War material memorializing the International Brigades in Mexico. Also included is Friends of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade social service support information for volunteers returning to New York City in 1939.
