Biographical / Historical
On April 24, 1979, Ruben was inducted as a Fellow of Polytechnic Institute of New York to celebrate 50 years of his pioneering electrochemistry and electronic achievements. Forty of Ruben's inventions were displayed at 333 Jay Street at the Brooklyn campus in an exhibition marking the occasion. Leonard Cohan, Director of the Polytechnic Libraries, worked with Ruben to curate the exhibition. Correspondence relating to the exhibition includes a draft of Cohan's speech for Ruben's fellow induction ceremony. Ruben sent Cohan literature, notes, and summaries which provided important contextual and background information for each object. The photographs and most of the literature and patents were numbered according to the related exhibition number. A similar exhibition was displayed around 1970 at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C. Photographs of the displays and objects are included. Realia is also included in the collection which consist of a plaque commemorating Ruben's laboratory, a battery, and a set of keys.
