Series II. Presidents Files, 1923-1994

The 1977-1979 folder contains correspondence related to the posthumous promotion of President George Washington to position of General of the Armies of the United States as well as correspondence related to the discovery of letters sent by President Washington to General Thomas Gage, the Commander-in-Chief of the British Armies in North America from 1763 to 1775.

While these folders contain material on the families of the presidents, materials are also on Adamses that may not be relations.

This file contains two pieces of microfiche containing copies of an article from the New York Times from January 18, 1925 detailing a speech Coolidge gave to the American Society of Newspaper Editors.

The file labeled Eisenhower, Dwight D.: Awards and Honors: 1955 does not contain materials related to Eisenhower or the awards he received during his presidency. All the materials in this file appear to be from a biographical file for Mrs. Harvey Firestone.

Folders 15 and 16 contain photographs of President Eisenhower at public events. A number of the photographs includes in these folders were used in Life, Time, and House and Home.

Folder 12, which contains materials from November 25, 1963, includes a Nielsen Television Index special report. The report focuses on the television response to the death of President Kennedy from November 22 to November 25 1963.

Folder 10, which contains materials from October 1975, includes a letter from a Time reader. The letter includes research related to theories about President Kennedy's assassination.

Folder 7, which contains materials from 1967, includes two copies of the Nix Film Analysis Report from May 18, 1967. The report examines "The Assassination of President Kennedy," a film which was recorded by Orville O. Nix during the assassination of President Kennedy.

Folder 11, which includes materials from 1965, contains correspondence and contracts related to the sale of the gun used by Lee Harvey Oswald to assassinate President Kennedy. In addition to correspondence and contracts, there is also a police report examining the gun that was used in the assassination.

Included with the materials in this folder is a photograph of the Laetare Medal that was presented to President Kennedy by the University of Notre Dame on November 22, 1961.

Folder 14, which contains materials from 1964 to 1968, includes photos of doodles made by President Kennedy during meetings and discussions.

Folder 17 contains a photocopy of President Kennedy's Will.

The folders containing materials from January through June 1961 include copies of the Kennedy Family Tree.

Folder 13, which contains materials from 1941 through 1956, includes a signed letter from 1956. During this period, President Johnson was a United States Senator from Texas as well as the leader of the Democratic Party. The letter discusses a questionnaire that the Senator had completed for Fortune. The questionnaire that asked questions about current events and United States policies, is also included in the folder.

Folder 8, which contains materials from 1941 through 1964, includes two copies of a report on the assets and liabilities of the Johnson Family.

Folder 4, which contains materials from 1965, includes an inauguration program.

Folder 13, which contains materials from 1968, includes a copy of a report titled, "A Preliminary Report on a Study of Public Reaction to President Johnson's Decision Not to Seek Reelection."
