Series II. Prints from the Olds Collection Donated by White & Case, 1761-1894, inclusive
Extent
Scope and Contents
The series holds about 120 prints originally from the Olds collection that were donated by the law firm White & Case to N-YHS in 2018. Similar to Series I, the subjects of the prints are naval battles of the American Revolution, War of 1812, and Tripolitan War; other military scenes from those wars; portraits of notable Americans, especially George Washington; views of New York City, the surrounding area, and upstate New York along the Hudson River; scenes from America's colonial history, such as William Penn's treaty with the Indians; and a few maps of Virginia and south. An unusual format for this collection is the music score for "Old Ironsides" inscribed to Commodore Charles Stewart by the composer, Charles T. Frey (Item 560).
All the items in the series are listed individually in the container list. The descriptions are based on the inventory provided by White & Case, observation of the object, and the original Olds catalogue to the extent the object could be explicitly linked to the catalogue.
Arrangement
The container list of the series is arranged by White & Case's inventory number. For some of the objects, an original Olds catalogue number was found on the print or frame; in those instances, the Olds number was also included in the container list label.
Credit Line for Series II
