Scope and Contents note

1. Letters Sent, 1828-1846. 5 items (Box 1, folder 5).

Three to his wife, Caroline, and two to his daughter Mary. One to his wife includes excerpts from a shipboard diary not otherwise in the collection.

2. Diary, 1846-1847, 1 v.

Kept while voyaging from the Java Sea back to New York City. Short entries describe the weather and relations between him and the crew. He appears to have had some difficulty with the captain.
