Abstract
Journals kept 1909, 1915, and 1916 by Abraham Lincoln Merritt as superintendent of the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (I.R.T.), the original private operator of the New York City subway system. Merritt became superintendent of the I.R.T. in 1904, shortly before the opening of the company's original underground line on 27 October, and held that position until his retirement in 1940.
