Abstract

Richard Ebihara, Wayland Quintero and Perry Yung started the Slant Performance Group in 1995, in order to address Asian racial and sexual stereotypes. Their first show, Big Dicks Asian Men, examined Asian masculinity. As a trio, the group created nine original theatrical productions and toured across America over a ten-year period. The Slant Performance Group Records (1995-2004) consist of performance materials created by the group. Materials include play scripts, photographs, press, brochures and pamphlets, notebooks, a mailing list, and video recordings.

The Slant Performance Group Records (1995-2004) consist of performance materials created by the group. Materials include play scripts, photographs, press, brochures and pamphlets, notebooks, a mailing list, and video recordings. These materials reflect the experimental, musical theater performed by the group and focus on the racial issues faced by Asian American men.

Custodial History

Prior to their donation, materials were created and kept by the individual members of the group, and stored in their homes. Materials were ultimately hand-delivered to Laura Chen-Schultz at the offices of the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU, where they were held as of 2024.

Two DVDs and 1 CD were deaccessioned; the DVDs were duplicates of the performance on video8 in the collection and the CD was a commercial recording.
