John Millaire is a retired videographer based in St. Louis, Missouri. This collection consists of digital transfers of 10 video recordings by Millaire of performances by Julius Hemphill and the Black Artist Group (BAG) in the 1970s.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of digital transfers of 10 video recordings by John Millaire of performances by Julius Hemphill and the Black Artist Group (BAG) in the 1970s. Recordings include an African dance and musical performance with Hemphill on the flute and saxophone; various theatrical and musical performances; Julius Hunter, a St. Louis news anchor, delivering the news circa 1976; a children's performance; and an outdoor concert featuring different singers and musicians. All of the recordings are in black and white.

Processing Information

Prior to acquisition, original video tapes were reformatted and only the digital transfers were donated. At the time of accessioning, materials were described on the collection level. During processing, born-digital items were forensically imaged, arranged, and described. New York University Libraries follow professional standards and best practices when imaging, ingesting, and processing born-digital material in order to maintain the integrity and authenticity of the content.
